The Engelwirt at “Open Monument Day”
As part of “Open Monument Day,” interesting buildings open their doors and offer a glimpse behind the scenes.
On this day, visitors have the opportunity to gain insights into the history of the Engelwirt building. In the Middle Ages, Berching—as the second-most important town in the Prince-Bishopric—was home to several government offices. Berching has had its own jurisdiction since 1354. The house next to the Gredinger Gate was, alongside the provost’s office, the most significant building in Berching. As early as 1280, the provost had his seat in the provost’s house; as judge and highest secular official, he administered Berching and the surrounding towns in matters of taxation and justice. With great attention to detail and while preserving the building’s historical character, Stephanie and Michael Zink have renovated the property and created a retreat for guests, complete with a regional shop.
On this day, the Zink family invites you to tour the newly renovated Engelwirt from 1–5pm. There will also be two guided tours at 1pm and 2pm. Participation is only possible with prior registration at the tourism office. Registrations can be made by phone at 08462/20513 or by email at tourismus@berching.de. When registering, please provide your name, cell phone number, and email address. Group size is limited to a maximum of 16 people.
