12pm: studio visit and artist talk with Gregory Forstner and Michael Zink
from 1.30pm: filmscreening of “Le Grand Bleu,” in which Gregory Forstner appeared as a child, at the Berchinger Kino.
Gregory Forstner, born in Cameroon in 1975, grew up in a French-Austrian family, navigating cultures and continents. After studying in Vienna and Nice and spending many years in Brooklyn, he now lives and works in Marseille. His painting moves between art history and the present, figuration and alienation. Forstner transforms influences ranging from Expressionism to Goya into a distinctive, intensely charged visual language. His figures—fragile humans, anthropomorphic dogs, fools, and outsiders—seem both familiar and unsettling. Shaped by a family history that spans resistance and collaboration with the Nazis, his work addresses the ambivalence of the human condition with great urgency. His works are represented in major international collections.
